Overview
Established in 1982 following the 1980 U.S. Census, the Johnson City Metropolitan Transportation Planning Organization carries out the federally required continuing, cooperative, and comprehensive (3-C) transportation planning process for a four-county region in northeast Tennessee. The Johnson City MTPO serves the jurisdictions of Bluff City, Elizabethton, Johnson City, Jonesborough, and portions of Carter, Sullivan, Unicoi, and Washington Counties — coordinating long-range plans, transportation improvement programs, and public engagement for the region’s growing communities.
Daruma Tech partnered with the Johnson City MTPO to deliver a modern, content-rich website that reflects the organization’s broad planning responsibilities and commitment to public transparency. The site supports the MTPO’s federally mandated planning products — including the 2050 Metropolitan Transportation Plan and Transportation Improvement Program — alongside public meeting records, interactive StoryMaps, and traffic count data resources. Built on a flexible content management platform, the site empowers MTPO staff to update and publish planning materials without technical barriers, keeping the public informed throughout every phase of the planning process.
