A Comprehensive, Interactive Website for Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization

Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is responsible for Broward County, Florida’s transportation policy and budget. Its many responsibilities include public transportation and road maintenance and improvements. Because the agency frequently solicits public feedback and regularly provides time-sensitive information, having a robust, secure, and easy-to navigate website is mission critical. Daruma Tech, in partnership with Goodman PR, was awarded the contract to design and build their website.

Client Overview

Broward MPO is a federally mandated public agency responsible for creating transportation policy and allocating federal transportation funds for Broward County, Florida, a metropolitan area of nearly 2 million residents encompassing Fort Lauderdale and surrounding communities. Its responsibilities include public transportation planning, optimizing traffic flow, and improving accessibility to reliable, efficient transportation.

Client: Broward Metropolitan Planning Organization
Location: Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Industry: Government agency
Daruma Tech Services Provided: Fact-finding, stakeholder consultation, visual and technical design, remote security monitoring, technical training for back-end users.

Challenge

Broward MPO needed a user-friendly, attractive website that would clearly communicate the agency’s mission and initiatives while making it quick and easy for Broward County residents to find information and resources and contact the agency. Because Broward MPO regularly solicits public feedback and needs to communicate time-sensitive information (such as meeting times and application deadlines), the site also needed to be robust, secure, and easy for both
front-end and back-end users to interact with.

Discovery

Before building the site, Daruma Tech, in partnership with Goodman PR, will worked closely with Broward MPO and its key stake holders to identify their wants, needs, and pain points.

We solicited input from focus groups to identify the most-wanted features of both front-end and back-end users. Using this information, we explore options for building the site’s content-management system, focusing on cost-effectiveness, robustness, and flexibility.

Solution & Implementation

Daruma Tech and Goodman PR are designing and designed and built a powerful new website for Broward MPO incorporating the following features:

  • A clean, modern, and consistent visual design that makes key content easy to find
  • Video content for better user engagement
  • A simplified, easy-to-read calendar
  • A “Speak Up Broward” page for users’ comments, questions, and suggestions
  • Ongoing virtual and on-site training for Broward MPO staff
  • Round-the-clock monitoring and support Technologies used include Joomla, HTML5, CSS3, PHP, MySQL.
